Why do we call Berserkir Jiu Jitsu a Chosen Family?

The definition of a Chosen Family is "A network of close friends, mentors, or peers who provide the same emotional support and love typically found in biological families."
At Berserkir Jiu Jitsu this is exactly what we are striving to achieve. The village that every person had in the past, is increasingly harder to find. In the modern world, especially since Covid, people are becoming more isolated. We believe everyone deserves a place they can belong. We want to build a family and build our community to encourage one another, challenge one another, and grow together.

Every person who walks in to Berserkir comes from a different background. Some are looking to get into shape. Some want to learn self defense. Others simply need a place to disconnect from the stress of every day life. No matter why they start, they're welcomed with the same respect and support.
Jiu Jitsu has a unique way of bringing people together. You learn to trust your training partners. You celebrate each others wins, on and off the mats. You help each other through those difficult days. And in the process of helping others, you grow into the best version of yourself.

Training isn't easy, we work hard. We push each other daily. We learn to stay calm under pressure and solve problems when things don't go our way. But at the end of each round, and each class, we shake hands. We laugh together. We talk to all hours of the night. And then we leave better than we arrived.

Our goal at Berserkir Jiu Jitsu has never been the toughest in the room or to be the biggest gym on the coast. Our goal is to create a place where people of all ages, shapes, experience levels, etc. can grow in confidence, develop discipline, and build meaningful relationships. To build that tribe, community... family.
When you step onto our mats you are not just joining a gym, you are becoming part of that chosen family.

Ready to experience it for yourself? First class is always free. We would love to have you on the mats!
